January 21, 2010 James Gunderson, of Gamma Two Robotics interviewed by Sander Olson on Next Big Future

Excerpt:

Question 3: What is the "cybernetic brain" that powers these robots?
Answer: The cybernetic brain was designed by my wife, Dr. Louise F. Gunderson. She has a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering, and she and I examined how living organisms model their world. The cybernetic brain is directly based on this modeling.

Question 4: This brain sounds like an AI advance. Is there any chance that this "cybernetic brain" could be the first step towards artificial general intelligence?
Answer: Absolutely. The mechanisms in the brain are very generalized, and we designed our system to emulate the pre-frontal cortex of the human brain, the part that "thinks about thinking". So the cybernetic brains are generalized modules that are capable not only of learning, but of continuously altering their behaviors.

Dr. James P. Gunderson interviews the W.L.M.A. Robot on the stage at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show, from the NextBigFuture

10 January 2010 - Gamma Two CEO and Founder Interviewed by Robot Business Online Magazine

From the floor of the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show, Gamma Two's founder and CEO Louise Gunderson is interviewed by Dan Kara of Robotics trends. She addresses questions about:
  • the state of the robotics industry,
  • The availability of robots,
  • The needs of the elderly, and disabled, and
  • The chaos that is CES
Dr. Gunderson talks about the role of Gamma two Robotics in defining the future of home assistance robots.
Excerpt:
DK: "How has the reception to your products been?"
LG: "It's been very good, I've been very encouraged. ... I think right now there is a real need, as we have an ageing population; and I think that robots can fit that need, so that the individual doesn't lose privacy, and can stay at home longer."

08 January 2010 - Gamma two Robots "truly innovative technology" at CES

"At first glance you might mistake it for furniture, but what Gamma Two, Inc has created is quite the amazing little robot. Currently available in custom production the robot, known as “Basil”, is designed for service around the house. Once turned on it can respond to a wide array of voice commands. Basil’s most simple function is to transport items from room to room. A function perfect for folks whose physical condition impedes them from carrying such things as laundry baskets. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg of what Basil can do." reported Angel Djambazov of Reve News

31 December 2009 - New Years Eve - getting ready for a Road Trip!

The Big show at CES starts next week, and the Gamma two team is getting the robots ready for a Road trip. This will be their first big adventure, a 750 mile trip across the mountains and the desert. The prototype WheelChair Level Mobility Assistant (WLMA) got her final touch-up, her new top surface!

No that is NOT Champagne she is delivering - we will have to wait a few more hours for the Celebration.

In addition, Channel 9 News was in this morning to do a quick TV interview, as soon as we know the broadcast time and date, we'll let everyone know.

28 October 2009 - Happy Service Day Basil!

Watch the new
robot video, Basil celebrated his first aniversary - He went into service in October of 2008. We had a party, and Wilma (one of the other robots) presented Basil with a cake, and sang "Happy Service Day to you"

07Sep2009 The Global General Gathering of the Triple Nine Society

The Global General Gathering of the Triple Nine Society Basil will be rubbing Elbows (well, if he had elbows) with Nobel Laureates, University Presidents, and Emmy Award winners this weekend! Best of all, he will get to visit the historic Brown Palace Hotel as he is part of a presentation on "Robotic Consciousness and the Impending Robot Conflicts" presented at 2pm on Saturday.

19Aug2009 - Basil attended the Denver Modernism Show

Basil attended the gala opening night party at The Denver Modernism Show. Both of the robots (Basil and Wilma) were working in our booth for the whole weekend. The Drs. Gunderson presentated a talk on the history of robotics on Saturday afternoon.

News

02Mar2009 -Basil's Television Debut!

Early (very early) on Monday morning the news van from KWGN Denver's local Channel 2, pulled up at the Gamma Two lab on Kalamath Street. Over the next few hours, Basil the robot demonstrated his capabilities, including the voice input system for interacting with the people. The voice input and speech output combine with Basil's Cybernetic Brain to enable a very smooth interaction, much like giving commands to a very intelligent, well trained dog.

The live broadcasts aired during the morning news segments (Have we mentioned that we hate live demos?), between 6:30 and 9:00 am. (Did I mention really, really early?)
